Karma flattens very different feelings

Reddit's up and down arrows are great at one job: ranking. But they force every reaction through a single axis. An upvote has to mean "I agree", "this is funny", "this is useful", "this is sad but important", and "take my visibility" all at once. A downvote carries just as much ambiguity — disagreement, distaste, off-topic, or plain dislike.

Webemoji keeps the arrows intact and adds a second signal. Instead of compressing every response into one vote, it lets people choose from the same searchable emoji palette used across supported sites.

Reactions stay attached to the post

The Reddit adapter targets public post permalinks. A reaction belongs to the canonical post URL, not to a comment, a listing position, or a private page. If someone opens the same post later, they see the same Webemoji count beside the post's controls.

Webemoji sits near Reddit's vote and comment controls. The trigger opens a searchable palette with reactions across smileys, gestures, hearts, symbols, objects, and more. Search works across the extension's supported emoji labels, so users who already know what they mean don't have to scroll the whole grid.

Counts that are public but not profile-shaped

Anyone can read reaction counts without signing in to Webemoji or Reddit. Leaving a reaction takes a one-time email verification, so the count is tied to verified Webemoji accounts instead of throwaway alts. The public page shows aggregates, not a list of who reacted.

Independent of subreddit rules and vote weighting

The reaction layer isn't owned by a subreddit or by Reddit's ranking algorithm. It follows Webemoji's own counting model, documented on the counts page, so a reaction means one verified person picked that emoji — not a weighted, sorted, or fuzzed vote total.

A Webemoji emoji isn't a Reddit vote

If a few downvotes ever felt like they could be read as brigading, hostility, or account behavior Reddit doesn't like, that worry is real — but Webemoji isn't magic protection from it. It doesn't bypass Reddit's rules, reverse account actions, hide your browsing from Reddit, or stop Reddit enforcing its own site.

The advantage is narrower and cleaner: a Webemoji emoji is not a Reddit vote. It's a separate action in Webemoji, counted in Webemoji and shown as a Webemoji aggregate, so it never turns into karma or feeds Reddit's ranking.

Signal without native vote effects

Sometimes you want to react publicly without pushing a post up or down inside Reddit. Sometimes you want to say "this is suspicious" without joining a pile-on. Sometimes you want a richer reaction than a binary vote allows.

Choosing an emoji in Webemoji doesn't press Reddit's upvote, downvote, awards, saves, follows, reports, or moderation controls — those stay separate, and you use native votes only when you actually mean them.

How Auto-press works on Reddit

The off-by-default Auto-press original buttons setting turns your emoji into a real Reddit vote as well: a positive emoji upvotes the post, a negative one downvotes it. These are genuine votes with genuine karma and ranking effects — exactly as if you had clicked the arrow — so the setting stays off until you choose otherwise.

Un-reacting releases only a vote the extension itself pressed; a vote you cast by hand is never touched, and an emoji you keep in the neutral list presses nothing. The three lists are drag-and-drop editable in the popup.
